Using Articles in Small Business Marketing

As a business owner you spend a great deal of time building your brand which probably includes applying all sorts of methods to attract clients to your business.

Most likely these include favourites like the Yellow Pages, direct mail campaigns and other forms of advertising. In marketing terms - these are what we call "push" strategies which simply means you're pushing your brand onto prospective customers in order for them to notice you and hopefully buy from you.

At the same time your competitors and all other businesses out there are probably doing the same thing - all vying for your customer's attention. And all hoping to be heard.

Truth is though - customers don't buy unless they're looking for a solution to a problem and that's when they turn to businesses that are most likely to provide it.

You can attract or "pull" people to your business by pre - empting some common problems people might have and showing them the solutions.

By doing this you have already demonstrated you understand their needs so they're more likely to feel better about doing business with you.

This means you're already one step ahead of the competition.

An effective way of doing this is through writing articles.

"Article marketing helps build credibility, trust and long lasting relationships in any business."

So why not start writing some articles for your business?

  • Add regular articles to your website to encourage future visits and provide a handy resource for your customers
  • Include a relevant article in your mailouts to existing customers
  • Submit your article to an online ezine or local publication
  • Share with associates at business events
  • Turn a collection of articles into an ebook and use as a FREE giveaway to customers OR
  • Offer it as a FREE giveaway to complementary businesses for their website - with your business byline

 

The great thing about articles, apart from being a multi purpose tool, they're cheap to write and if written in an engaging style - pay for themselves many times over in good will and repeat business.

The other benefit of articles - if used on your website - search engines love relevant articles so they're a good way to improve your organic rating.
